Southport Boats has partnered with Volvo Penta to produce a version of its 30-foot center-console powered by Volvo Penta’s D6 440 Aquamatic DPI diesel sterndrive. This fully integrated Duoprop propulsion system will allow the Southport 30 FE to achieve approximately 2.5 miles to the gallon. With 170 gallons of fuel on board and traveling at 42 mph, the vessel should have an impressive range of nearly 400 miles. A key feature of the Southport 30 FE is Volvo Penta’s joystick docking system for single diesel Aquamatic sterndrive installations. It allows the captain to engage the docking button on the joystick to control steering, shifting, the bow thruster and the throttle with just one hand. The sterndrive configuration allows for full access to the stern area for fishing. The D6 440 DPI integrates a six-cylinder, 5.5-liter common rail diesel with double overhead camshafts, a turbo and a supercharger. It uses stainless-steel Duoprop contra-rotating propellers.
